Node Map Solutions
What are good free alternatives to Google Maps which we are currently using for our node map but would like to change it to something else. But does anything else have also aerial photos which really help when trying to position node precisely? What are experiences with OpenStreetMap?
So, maybe we could first made a list of all our node map solutions:
- wlan slovenija has a very simple one with real-time status and filtering options
- Freifunk Node Database has a map based on OpenStreetMap and OpenLayers:
- Main layer is generated from static data from the database with map_layers plugin for Rails.
- Additional live layer currently beeing created by external script ( cgi-bin-map.kml). It processes olsrd's /var/run/latlon.js ( mapwrite.c). Rewrite of live layer in ruby with filtering and caching on todo list.
- Netmon has a map based on OpenLayers that uses OpenStreeMap, Google Maps and Bing Maps.
- Main layers are provided by Netmons API as kml file wich are generated by Netmon from the database:
- centralized Freifunk Map: Live System, Source Code
- Decentralized Freifunk Map: Live System, Source Code, in some subfolders there
- FFHTopo Live Installation, Some Infos in German. SVN currently down
- Freimap Information
- Map from Ninux: http://map.ninux.org/
- Heartbeat Map, Freifunk Pberg Live System
- Funkfeuer Wien Live System
- Funkfeuer Graz Live System
